Before the ‘why’, a closer look at the ‘what’

A bit later this week, or at least some time between now and the season starting, I’d really like to put something together on exactly how wise it is for teams to let their highly-paid superstars enjoy dangerous hobbies when the day job has the potential to be lethal enough.  I’m also keen to look into why drivers do it in the first place.  Robert Kubica is far from the first high-profile victim of extra-curricular activity.

In the meantime, here’s a little nugget of video with which to reach your own conclusions.  This on-board footage comes from the rally crew running two cars behind Kubica on the Ronde di Andora and shows the first 3 minutes of Robert’s final stage on Sunday, ending at the scene of his accident:
